We conduct a variety of hands-on workshops in Japan, and occasionally elsewhere. Bridging cultures via fun and creativity, these programs are based on American folk arts, and/or related to the shows we offer.
“Limberjacks” are clogging (tap dancing) percussive toys. The traditional wooden ones probably originated in the mountains of Appalachia.
Our workshop versions use cardboard bodies and bamboo limbs. Character up to your imagination.
“Booboo puppets” are named for the sound of piggy voices, as imagined in Japan. I guess we might call them “oinkers.” They are based on friction drums, such as Europe’s “rumble pot” and Brazil’s “cuica.”
A quick and simple bit of fun, color in the butterfly pattern, affix a paper ring to wear it on your finger. Sounds exactly like a butterfly in flight!
Apple dolls, made from cut and dried apples, also originated in Appalachia. Not so much toys as art objects, the charm of these beauties appeals most to more mature workshoppers.
